Welcome to DanceKarishma, founded by Jaya Sharma (Dance Director) and Nikhil Sharma (Managing Director), who are full time Software engineer and Architect in respective Software and Networking fields and have been running this school to bring their passion of dancing to life and others to encourage the classical touch of India. Here, we work together to provide a fun filled environment to learn and perform on various Indian dance styles, such as classical, semi-classical and folk. The school has 2 sub-divisons :
- KathakAanjali of Dance Karishma
- FolkRas of Dance Karishma
In Classical, we teach Kathak. In folk dances, we teach Garba, Dandiya, Lavani, Ghoomar, and Bengali Folk dance styles.
Classes are open for adults and kids from age 5 and above, girls and boys. Enrollments are done through out the year. Classed are conducted in Cupertino, South Bay Area. We perform in various events like Holi, Diwali, Indian Independence Day celebration competition etc. in and outside of Bay Area.
We also conduct our Annual Day celebration, during the month of February/March/April.
We have won FIA Dance Competition 1st prize adult group Dance Yr 2008, FIA Dance Competition 3rd prize junior Folk group Dance Yr 2008, FIA Dance Competition 1st prize adult Classical group Dance Yr 2009, FIA Dance Competition 2nd prize adult group Dance Yr 2009, Tamil Manram Dance Competition Folk Yr 2008 and FIA Dance Competition 1st prize kids Folk group Dance Yr 2010. We have been performing at Fremont Diwali, Sunnyvale Diwali, Sunnyvale Holi, Cupertino Diwali, Vallejo Baisakhi and Indian Spice Festival in Pleasanton.

What's the age limit to start?
Anyone age 6 or above can join us. No upper age limit.
DO we need any prior experience?
Not required. But while filling up the registration form, do mention if you have any prior dance or music experience.
I am interested in appearing in Kathak exams. Are there possibilities for that? What if I am not interested in giving exams?
We are affiliated with Akhil Bharteeya Gandharv Mahavidyalaya. Please discuss your chances for appearing in exam during your first introductory meet.

Which Kathak Gharana will our learning be based upon?
We are from Lucknow Gharana. Your learning would be mainly in that style. Whereas we will discuss about other ghanarans time to time for your knowledge.
What are the benefits of learning Kathak?
While music and dance is divine, it bring utmost pleasure when you connect with the rhythm of the universe. Kathak or any other Indian classical dance styles will work upon your posture and train your body in such a way that you benefit in N number of ways. Physical as well as mental health benefits are enormous.
